A Joy Filled Sight

A Joy Filled Sight

Friday morning (June 26th), during my Formation and Education for Ministry Legislative Committee session, a fellow deputy leaned over and showed me her phone “SCOTUS legalizes same-sex marriage across USA.” Gratitude and joy filled my heart! A few minutes later, I heard applause and whoops coming from the meeting room where NorCal Deputy the Very Rev. Brian Baker was chairing the Legislative Committee on Marriage.

A few minutes later, I walked into the General Convention worship space, filled with people, and jazz music filling the room. I encountered a joy filled sight. In an open area between the rows of seats, a priest wearing her clerical gear was jitterbugging with a guy in shorts and flip flops, gauzy purple scarves draped around them. My soul was touched and tears came to my eyes. I love this Church! I won’t forget this morning at General Convention.

The Rev. Cindy Long and I (pictured above) also took the opportunity to have our photo taken with the winner of 2015 Lent Madness, Saint Francis of Assisi today. The Episcopal Church was graced with the presence of St. Francis at the Forward Movement booth.
