A Message from Bishop Megan about the Mountain Fire

A Message from Bishop Megan about the Mountain Fire

Dear Friends in Christ,

I've received word that there is a fire burning in Shasta county, north of Redding and Bella Vista. It is being called the Mountain Fire. As I write this note to you, I am reminded that for thousands of residents of Northern California, and in our diocese, this news will trigger hard and painful memories. We know that it is reminding them of other fires that took loved ones, property, and/or a familiar way of life. Canon Andrea, Kati Braak, and I have been in contact with the Rev. Carren Sheldon, Interim Rector at All Saints’, Redding and the Very Rev. Richard Yale, Dean of the Alta California deanery, to get a frontline assessment of what the needs are and may be in the future. We will continue to monitor and keep you appraised about the situation and what we can do.

We pray for the people of Shasta county, and we wait with them as we watch to see how this fire will respond to containment efforts. We will also respond as we are asked and as help is needed.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen

The Book of Common Prayer 134

We pray, we wait, we watch…together,
