Camp Noel Porter Winter Update

Camp Noel Porter Winter Update

by The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California

In the November 12, 2015 issue of the Aurora Clergy e-Newsletter, Bishop Barry Beisner addressed the financial challenges currently facing Camp Noel Porter. “This is a complex matter that will receive focused effort, as we work to discern what the partnership between the diocese, Camp Noel Porter and St. Nicholas', Tahoe City will look like,” said the Bishop. “Please keep this situation, and all whom it impacts, in your prayers.” Bishop Beisner and the diocese thank all former Camp Noel Porter board members for their faithful commitment and countless hours of heartfelt service.

At 2015 Diocesan Convention, held in Redding on November 14th, both Bishop Beisner and Canon Andrea McMillin spoke about the challenges facing Camp Noel Porter. The entire Convention honored the Rev. Dr. Jenni Liem for her dedicated work with Camp Noel Porter, as she prepares to step away from the Executive Director position as of December 31, 2015.

The reconstituted Camp Noel Porter Board met on Wednesday, November 18th and offers this statement:

As we enter this time of transition, in light of our financial circumstances and inability to staff the retreat center, the Camp Noel Porter Board has unanimously decided that we will not host any events after
January 1, 2016, through the winter. Our schedule after winter 2016 is still under consideration.
This is a complex situation that we are approaching responsibly and prayerfully.
We appreciate your understanding.
