Asset Based Community Development in the Congregation

Asset Based Community Development is an approach to community engagement that centers on the belief that individuals, groups, and communities have the gifts they need to address the needs they see around them. This mindset is a powerful tool for joining people together to discover their common assets and organize their work for the common good. The ABCD approach is one that many in our diocese, particularly many of our deacons and groups focused on diaconal ministry, have found useful and wish to share more broadly. You’ll leave with concrete tools for identifying and mapping the assets in your congregation and larger community, and ways to learn more about this way of engaging with the people around you.
