Deanery Celebrates Together

Central Deanery’s Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols

by the Very Rev. Clifford Haggenjos, Dean of the Central Deanery and Rector of St. John's, Roseville and the Rev. Arthur R. Lillicropp, Priest in Charge of Grace Episcopal, Wheatland

In the early evening of Sunday, December 2nd, members of the Central Deanery gathered at Grace Episcopal Church in Wheatland for A Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols. Led by the Rev. Arthur R. Lillicropp, priest in charge of Grace Church, clergy and members of the deanery read eight lessons. Maree Gauper and Terry Compton, the organists at Grace Church and St. John's Roseville, respectively, led the assembly in numerous advent hymns. The Grace Church Quartet beautifully sang an anthem, "Lo, How a Rose e'er Blooming." An offertory collected at the conclusion of the service raised $583 for the effort to Rebuild Our Church in Haiti.

At the conclusion of the service, as the church bell was rung, all were invited to an outstanding reception hosted by the people of Grace Church. During this time of wonderful fellowship, members of the deanery excitedly spoke of the many wonderful ministries and services for the holidays that churches have planned. This stupendous event was enjoyed by so many, that a "tradition" in the deanery has now begun. The members of St. Andrews' in Antelope plan to host next year's event, and the expectation is to rotate this event to all ten congregations in the years to come. Special thanks to the Mission Committee of Grace Church; Marge Muck, senior warden of Grace Church; Jim Muck; Amanda Johnson; Chris Bare; David Bare; Jim Skukrude; Orrin Gauper; Bob Gauper; Christine McCormick; Amelia Oliver; Tom Bookholtz; Cherine Gagnow; all those who participated in the service; and a special "thank you" to all the members of Grace Church who opened not only their sanctuary, but also their hearts to all of us on this first day of our blessed New Year!
