Deacon Dave Ferrell and Archdeacon Cookie Clark are putting together a 6 months’ series of discernment workshops for those persons considering ordination to the Diaconate. The first discernment workshop will be on September 15 from 10 am – 2 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 800 D Street, Marysville, CA 95901. There is no charge for these workshops. The only cost to the participant will be time, travel and brown bag lunches. If the participant decides to seek ordination, the usual Diocesan steps in the Ordination Manual and costs will apply.
This is similar to the highly successful Deacon Discernment in Semper Virens that Deacon Phina Borgeson and Cookie conducted. These workshops are for discerners from the congregations in the southern area of the diocese, east of Sacramento. It is not necessary to attend these workshops in order to enter into the ordination process. However, it might be helpful to have this time of prayer, meditation, and a chance to meet and talk with a variety of deacons for discernment. Those who decide upon ordination, with very few exceptions, will attend the School for Deacons. Potential students must meet with the Bishop for permission to attend the School.
