Education for Ministry 2014 Graduation

Education for Ministry 2014 Graduation

by Sally Rooney, Education for Ministry Coordinator for the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California

I attend St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Woodland and have served as the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California's Coordinator of Education for Ministry (EfM) for the past three years. It has been a humbling experience to work so closely with other committed Christians in this journey, and to encounter over and again the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. I want to thank the Rt. Rev. Barry L. Beisner for taking the time from a packed schedule to be here tonight. Many thanks to the Very Rev. Brian Baker and to the entire Trinity Cathedral, Sacramento staff for their support and presence here tonight. And a special thanks to the Rev. Virginia McNeely who is also an EfM Mentor Trainer, and will be attending our June training of trainers. Thank you to the musicians, for hospitality, printers and volunteers who are always here to serve in their various ministries, either at the altar or in other lay activities.

Education for Ministry is a grassroots effort sponsored and supported by The University of the South, Sewanne, but functions at the parish level to prepare and enhance people’s ministries. Parish Mentors provide the classes and are responsible for attending training every 12 – 18 months. Would the mentors present, either active or past, please stand and be acknowledged now…Many will be attending our diocesan training in Auburn in June. We have scheduled three training sessions there, for a total so far of 22 mentors. Most of those attending are mentoring groups in our diocese.

We have come together this evening to acknowledge individuals who committed themselves to four years of study, reflection and discernment in their ministries. This evening some of them will share with us stories of their faith journeys. I would like to thank them all in advance, as I appreciate the work they have done that has resulted in their being here tonight. They will be speaking in the order listed in the program. Thank you all for attending and participating in our 2014 graduation ceremony and celebration.
