How Do I Attend Cursillo?

How Do I Attend Cursillo?

This is the second article in a series about Cursillo. Click here to read the first article, "What is Cursillo?"

by the Rev. Mike Kerrick, Interim Rector of Trinity, Folsom

Earlier this month, I gave you a brief overview of the history of Cursillo, along with a short description of how the weekend works. Today I would like to tell you how to attend an upcoming Cursillo.

~ First, you can download an application from the Cursillo website,, by clicking on the "Candidate/Sponsor Form" link on the lefthand side of the page. After completing the candidate form, have your Rector, Priest-in-Charge or associate clergy sign it.

~ Next, you will need a sponsor. Sponsors are people who have attended Cursillo (they are called "Cursillistas") and think you are a good candidate to attend as well. Sometimes people who are Cursillistas will come to you and ask if they can sponsor you.

Sponsors will pay your candidate fees, take you to and from the location presenting Cursillo, and take care of any important needs you may have for those three days. This can include getting your children to school, feeding pets, or any other mandatory thing that needs to be done while you are at Cursillo. The purpose of this is to allow you a distraction-free three days to renew your faith and become a new member of the body of Christ in a slightly different way than you are now.

The most important thing that a sponsor does is lift you up in prayer each and every day that you are in Cursillo. There will be hundreds of people praying for you and your Cursillo during those three days, not only from Northern California, but also throughout the world. It is amazingly powerful!  If you do not have any sponsors available in your parish, please contact the secretariat on the Cursillo website and you will get matched up with a sponsor.

Next week we will talk about what happens after your three days -- Ultreyas, fourth days, and how you can become a team member for a future presentation of Cursillo.

For those who would like to attend, the next Cursillo will be presented October 27-30 at Camp St. Sava in Jackson. Prospective Cursillo team members can email Rector Janet Kendig: (preferred), or call (209) 296-5158.
