by Benjamin Mertz, Minister of Music at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sebastopol
Please join the Joyful Noise! Gospel Singers for their first big concert event, Saturday evening, June 23rd at 7 pm at Incarnation Santa Rosa. This 25-member choir has been learning traditional African folk songs, American spirituals, gospel music, and other original and contemporary music. They've been working hard for months to put this program together, and it's the most ambitious concert event they've done in a long time. Many will remember some of the gospel choir joining the service on Easter Day at St. Stephen's.
Expect a joyful celebration of vocal music from the heart of American sacred tradition, accompanied by piano, acoustic guitar, saxophone, and hand percussion. They'll also have audience participation and group singing!
The tickets will be $10, a portion of which will be donated to the relief effort for Rebuilding the Church in Haiti. A special offering for the same purpose will also be collected.
