Neighbors Organized Against Hunger

Finds a New Home

by the Rev. Gail Cafferata

At its Board Meeting on April 3rd, the Neighbors Organized Against Hunger (NOAH) Board selected a potential new Food Pantry Site. Cross and Crown Lutheran Church graciously offered to lease a vacant office building to NOAH. Cross and Crown offered the building across from Rancho Cotate High School on Snyder Lane to NOAH for a monthly rent of $400. NOAH and Cross and Crown have to work with the Sonoma County Environmental Health Department to decide on building improvements to make the building suitable for food distribution. NOAH is asking for funds and volunteers to make the building changes.

Board Chairperson Rev. Gail Cafferata explains that: “Cross and Crown was one of the original churches that founded NOAH. The congregation has been stalwart supporters of NOAH’s efforts to provide food to families in need. Their support of NOAH and the families we serve is a blessing to our community.”

NOAH needs to find a new Food Pantry site by the end of June. The Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District notified NOAH that it must move out of its current Mountain Shadows Middle School location.

NOAH provides:

• Supplemental food for families from the Rohnert Park, Cotati, and Penngrove area;
• Assists 200 to 300 household each week with up to 1,000 family members; and
• Provides over 20 pounds of food for each family for less than $2.00 each.

NOAH receives food and cash donations from many sources in the community. In particular, over 15,000 pounds of food was donated during the recent holidays from Rancho Cotate High School students and others. NOAH is partners with and appreciates greatly the assistance of the Redwood Empire Food Bank.

NOAH will continue operations at the Middle School site through June. Financial donations can be mailed to P. O. Box 2955, Rohnert Park, Ca. 94928. NOAH is seeking volunteers that would like to serve on the Board of Directors. If interested, individuals should contact the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County at 573-3399. Those that wish to volunteer as Food Pantry Coordinators should contact Carl Leivo at cleivo@sbcglobal.net or 707-293-8290.
