Rector Maryly Adair, St. Peter's, Red Bluff, Retires

The Rev. Maryly Adair, rector of St. Peter's, Red Bluff, since July 2004, retired on June 5. Coming from the Diocese of San Joaquin when its leadership was still opposed to the ordination of women, she found a home in the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, where she was ordained a transitional deacon in 2002, and served at Trinity Cathedral before being ordained as priest in March 2004, and called to St. Peter's as rector.

"I thoroughly loved being a priest, and even served as a regional missioner for a while," she said. St. Peter's senior warden, C. Fred Reynolds, said that the vestry is in conversation with the Rev. Betsey Monnot, Missioner for Leadership Development and Networking for the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, about its next steps. For now, said Reynolds, "We are using a combination of supply priests and morning prayer. ...This is a work in progress."
