Revised Form I-9

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has released a revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 for use. Employers are required to complete a Form I-9 for every employee hired in the United States.

The revised form includes new fields, has been reformatted to reduce errors, and contains clearer instructions to both employees and employers.

Employers should begin using the new Form I-9 for all new hires as of March 8, 2013.

Employers can continue to use previously accepted I-9 forms with revision dates on the lower left corner of the form of "02/02/09" and "08/07/09" until May 7, 2013. However, after May 7, 2013 employers must use only Form I-9 with the revision date of "03/08/13".
