Sept. 5, 2018 Update: The Delta Fire

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Dear Ones,
Tonight we start on yet another time of fierce prayer for our brothers and sisters in Redding, Mt. Shasta and Dunsmuir, where the Delta fire is expanding.

Bishop Barry, Kati Braak, and I have been in contact with our clergy and lay leaders in that area and have assured them that the diocese would blanket them in prayer, which is what I ask of you now.

We pray for those who have evacuated, for first responders who are setting up and receiving displaced people, and those who are fighting the fire. We pray for all who wait and watch this night, anticipating evacuation. We pray with special intention for those who are already traumatized from the earlier fires - for whom this is a continued nightmare - that they will feel God’s abiding love.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.

Your sister in Christ,
Canon Andrea
