Service of Tenebrae at Trinity Cathedral
by David Link, Canon for Music, Trinity Cathedral, Sacramento
One of the most solemn and powerful services of the church year, the Solemn Office of Tenebrae service is based on the ancient monastic offices, and includes the chanting of Psalms to plainsong (“Gregorian” chant). Also sung are the Tenebrae Responsories, written by the Spanish Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria, based on texts from the Lamentations of Jeremiah and music by Felice Anerio and Jacob Handl. This service will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Sacramento
