It is budget discussion day. Ugh! Some of the comments:
This budget is not nimble; where is the money for communication?; $2million for litigation over property a reduction of $1.1 million?; support New Visions and historically Black colleges; concern that there was an overestimate of investment earnings; etc.
In looking at a way to alleviate poverty we passed a resolution encouraging our congregations to use faith-based community organizing methods of IAF, PICO, ABCD, as well as DART and Gamaliel with a focus on stopping the school to prison pipeline. Wow! I never heard of that pipeline but it sure is something we need to halt. Continue to work and pray to alleviate poverty. The deacons will continue to urge that we begin meetings with a discussion of what are we doing here that will effect those in poverty?
An interesting idea. How about a loan fund for theological study with the caveat that if the priest serves three years in an under-served area, the loan will be forgiven? We need something like this for deacons.
How many Parliamentarians does it take decide whether to adopt or concur? Last count was two or was it three?
