Bishop Michael Curry Elected as 27th Presiding Bishop
The Rt. Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, was elected as the 27th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church today, June 27, 2015, at the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.
A statement from Bishop Barry L. Beisner:
"For me, personally, it is a great privilege to participate in this deeply prayerful process. I truly believe the Holy Spirit is at work today. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori was exactly the right leader at the right moment in the life of the Church. This is also true of Bishop Michael Curry, for whom I have a great deal of respect and affection. Today, I am even more pleased that I was able to introduce Bishop Curry to the people of our diocese at the 2013 Diocesan Convention, and I look forward to future visits from him as our Presiding Bishop."
Presiding Bishop-Elect Curry will preach at the General Convention's closing Eucharist on July 3rd, and officially begin his nine-year term on November 1, 2015.
