Bishop Michael Curry Elected as 27th Presiding Bishop

The Rt. Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, was elected as the 27th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church today, June 27, 2015, at the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A statement from Bishop Barry L. Beisner:

"For me, personally, it is a great privilege to participate in this deeply prayerful process. I truly believe the Holy Spirit is at work today. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori was exactly the right leader at the right moment in the life of the Church. This is also true of Bishop Michael Curry, for whom I have a great deal of respect and affection. Today, I am even more pleased that I was able to introduce Bishop Curry to the people of our diocese at the 2013 Diocesan Convention, and I look forward to future visits from him as our Presiding Bishop."

Presiding Bishop-Elect Curry will preach at the General Convention's closing Eucharist on July 3rd, and officially begin his nine-year term on November 1, 2015.

I watched most of the convention with special interest when the candidates were receiving their questions, each question given to each candidate to give a response. The questions were so appropriate to the "times" our church is in presently. I have so say that I was so elated with the election of Bishop Curry. The Evangelism we were to invite into our journey many years ago, became real in it's methodology and encorporation into our spiritual growth, and on top of that The Rev. Art Lillicrop was our supply priest while Pastor Ann was away the weekend of the election. Art is always so accessible to people, especially, Deacon David Alves. Everyone welcomed him, his humor, and his caring along with his rescue Cocker SPaniel.
I look forward to seeing and experiencing our Lord in new and deeper ways and give thanks to Him for leading Bishop Curry to his new ministry.
