Welcoming the Stranger

Welcoming the Stranger

by Lynn Zender, Convener, Welcoming the Stranger Task Force

Are you looking for a way to help refugees? Our Diocesan Welcoming the Stranger Task Force sends you this idea from Episcopal Migration Ministries!

Postcard campaign: In the lead up to the refugee summits organized by the United Nations General Assembly and President Barack Obama that will be held in September, more than 40 organizations, including The Episcopal Church, have developed a postcard to be delivered to Congress and President Obama urging the U.S. to lead by example.

Please ask members of your congregation to sign and send postcards as a batch by September 12. Read below for more information and click the links to get postcards!

Here are two ways to get involved:

1. The postcard can be signed electronically at http://bit.ly/refugeepostcard, and can also be printed off to have people sign at events. We encourage everyone to blast out the electronic postcard on social media, via email, on their websites, etc. so everyone can sign the electronic card, share it with their online networks, AND print off a bunch of copies to encourage their "In Real Life" friends to sign too! The postcard will also be used during the DCRally4Refugees (http://dcrally4refugees.org/) in Washington, DC on August 28.

We also encourage you to go to www.refugeesarewelcome.org/get-involved/ to print off copies and get them signed by your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and event attendees. You can also put the files on your organization's website so people can directly access them there. There are two designs, so feel free to use whichever you like best. Please package all the signed cards together and mail them to 110 Maryland Avenue, NE, Suite 110, Washington, DC, 20002 by September 12 so they can be delivered all together. Please help us spread the word and get as many postcards in as possible, both electronically and as hard copies!

If you have any questions, please contact Lynn Zender, Convener of our WTS Task Force, at LynnZender@sbcglobal.net.
