Morning Workshops:
Best Practices in Managing Change: Presentations by local church leadership teams
Change can be as seemingly simple as developing a new logo or as complex as altering the Sunday morning schedule and worship styles. You will hear from congregations in your region who have either responded to changing circumstances or planned and implemented change.
New Purposes for Old Buildings with Canon Bobbi Yeo and others
What are we to do with our buildings? Congregations are getting smaller but their buildings are not. We still have to heat, cool, clean, and maintain our buildings. This workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges we are facing and explore ideas for how to increase sustainability by maximizing the use of our buildings.
Afternoon Workshops:
Introduction to Ministry for First-time Vestry/Mission Committee Members with Bishop Beisner
Rules, Regulations & the Church with Canon Bobbi Yeo
We are both a church and a nonprofit organization. We are subject to some of the same rules and laws as other nonprofits and some of these rules/laws are different and in some cases nonexistent because we are a church. Last year we explored questions of employment law and benefits. This year we will look primarily at clergy and church tax rules and canon law. This will include a review of the new audit program for churches, a process that is canonically required to occur annually.
Transition: Negotiating the leap into a new future with the Rev. Canon Britt Olson
We live in a time of accelerated change. Using examples from Scripture and organizational development theory, this workshop will provide guidance and resources for negotiating change. Particular attention will be paid to transition in the leadership structure and composition.
Property and liability insurance/Risk Management with Canon Holly McAlpen, Regional Vice President for Client Services at the Church Insurance Company
Every church leader is faced with learning new information and skills. This workshop will equip leaders with basic information about your property and casualty insurance coverage through Church Insurance. It will explore questions about coverage in a changing environment. Congregations are exploring options for renting property, offering new ministries and working with local programs. Learn what this may mean for your coverage as you explore where God is leading you in ministry and service.
Life Planning with David Bundesen, President of the Episcopal Foundation of Northern California
Would you like to learn how to start talking about Estate gifts that include your church without starting a full blown Planning Giving Program? We are offering a workshop on a brand new program of the Foundation that has experienced overwhelming support during our test phase. Come see how this exciting and easy to implement program can directly benefit your church!
