Rev. Dr. Stephen Hassett was born and raised in an old Irish Catholic family in Buffalo, NY. After graduating from art school in the early 1990s, he moved to the Bay Area where he discovered the Episcopal Church through the congregation of St Gregory of Nyssa in San Francisco. He attended seminary at CDSP in Berkeley, was ordained in 2006, and for sixteen years served in parish ministry in the Diocese of California as a church planter, vicar, associate rector, and rector (during this time he also returned to CDSP to complete a Doctor of Ministry in 2016). In 2022 he joined the staff of CDSP as Director of Chapel and Campus Chaplain, and to teach a course in leadership for MDiv students.
Currently, Rev. Stephen serves as priest in charge of Ascension Episcopal Church in Vallejo, and remains connected to the Diocese of California in his role as President of the Board of Directors of St. Dorothy’s Rest in Camp Meeker. In addition to enjoying domestic life at home with his family, Steve is an ardent cyclist and hiker and enjoys spending time with friends.
