Learn about the Energy Efficiency Assessments–Invitation to Commission on the Environment Meeting  August 10, 2023 at 1 pm

At the 2022 diocesan convention, the delegates voted in favor of a resolution for the congregations in the diocese to participate in assessing their carbon footprint and energy efficiency, and then, develop a plan to be carbon neutral by 2030.  These assessments and the plans are to be completed by the end of 2024.

The diocese and the Commission on the Environment contracted with Energy for Purpose to perform the energy efficiency assessments.  Funding has been provided by the diocesan Board of Trustees and from The Episcopal Church Creation Care Grant program.  Several churches have also self-funded.  At this time, nine churches have been assessed and have received their reports.  In August, twelve more churches will be assessed.

The August 4 issue of the Episcopal News Service features an article about St. Martin’s-Davis and their journey to be carbon neutral.  It also describes the work of the diocese to be carbon neutral.  This article is encouraging for our congregations that are in the beginning stage of this long-term effort. https://www.episcopalnewsservice.org/2023/08/04/one-congregations-path-to-carbon-neutral-offers-case-study-as-diocese-denomination-work-toward-2030-goal/

YOU ARE INVITED to the next meeting of the Commission on the Environment where we will discuss the recent assessments and plans for the group of congregations who will be assessed in August.  I hope you will be able to join us.  Here is a link to the zoom meeting:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89420982631
