Our Journey Toward Carbon Neutrality 2030

In 2022, the diocesan convention passed Resolution R1-2022, calling every congregation to develop a plan to reach carbon-neutral facilities and operations by 2030.

The Commission Created a Simple Four-Step Process

  1. Form a Green Team
  2. Complete an initial carbon-footprint assessment using the Interfaith Power & Light calculator
  3. Participate in an ASHRAE Level 2 energy-efficiency assessment
  4. Use the assessment recommendations to build a project master plan to reach carbon neutrality

Progress so Far

38 congregations have completed steps 1–3 and are now developing master plans. The Commission is actively consulting with congregations and connecting them to technical and funding resources. Next, we’ll focus on supporting implementation.
