McGill University doctoral student plays organ concert Nov. 14 in Healdsburg

November 14, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

St. Paul’s “Mostly Third Sunday” concert series takes a short detour this month, with the concert occurring on Friday, Nov. 14. McGill University doctoral student Collin Miller will play organ masterpieces by Schumann, Brahms, Buxtehude, Rachel Laurin, Ethel Smyth, Franz Schmidt and J.S. Bach. The 6 p.m. concert is co-sponsored by the Redwood Empire Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Miller received his master’s degree at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. A frequent competitor in international pipe-organ festivals, he was a finalist in the 2021 St. Albans International Organ Competition. He is noted for seeking and playing neglected and challenging repertoire, among it the organ solo music of English/Parsi composer Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji (1892-1988).

St. Pauls’ Bigelow pipe organ was installed five years ago and has since been the setting of this concert series. Church leaders decided to offer the series as a gift so locals could hear classical music in a comfortable, local setting, at no cost. Admission remains free. Donations to the church’s building maintenance fund are not mandatory but are gratefully accepted.

The church is located at the corner of East and Matheson Streets, one block east of Healdsburg’s downtown Plaza. Those who cannot attend the live performance may hear it later on the church’s YouTube channel; consult the church website at  http://www.stpauls-healdsburg.org and click the “Watch and Listen” link.
