St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church seeks our next full-time rector. We are “a faith community built on Christ’s example of love, service, and compassion, where all are welcome.” We are located in the city of Chico, California, a town of just over 100,000 people and the home of Chico State University.

One of our top priorities at St. John’s is to maintain an inclusive and spiritually nourishing place for all. Our vibrant multi-generational congregation desires to attract more families, valuing diversity, and is eager to help those in our surrounding community.

We seek a rector who values:

  • Pastoral care for our parishioners

  • Thoughtful, inspirational sermons that are grounded in scripture
    and relevant to our daily life
  • Being an informed liturgical leader, sensitive to seasonal rituals and rites
  • Growth of the church

  • Collaboration with parish lay leaders

Duties:

  • Maintain regularly scheduled worship services and preaching
  • Support Bible Studies and other adult formation groups, the Sunday Godly Play Program, Youth and Young Families, our music program, and our varied outreach programs
  • Provide Pastoral Care
  • Support and guide our year-round stewardship
  • Help our parish to continue to grow and attract young families
  • Provide leadership in office administration, supervising the office administrator, the music director, and the sexton
  • Work with Vestry and Wardens, including developing and implementing a capital improvement campaign
  • Continue to build our relationships in the wider community, with particular attention to the Hispanic/Latino community
  • Collaborate with and support parish lay leaders

Compensation:

  • Salary: $90,000 per year
  • Full medical and dental benefits for clergy, plus clergy pension.
  • 4 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks sick leave, and 2 weeks continuing education.
